As of Tuesday, KalPa still had a chance, albeit slim, to advance. However, after the Malmö Redhawks picked up a point in Brno, the Kuopio squad can no longer catch either of the group's top two squads and so they are now left to battle Stavanger for 3rd place. As for the Oilers, their chances of advancement already vanished on Gameday 4.  

After starting the CHL with an impressive comeback victory over Malmö, KalPa lost three in a row and continued that slump into the start of the Liiga season, where they currently sit 10th with just 3 wins in 10 games. They come into this game against Stavanger on a two-game slide. Santeri Lukka leads the team in Liiga scoring with 5 points, while Kai Kantola has 5 points in the CHL on the strength of his opening-night hat-trick.

The Stavanger Oilers have won six Norwegian titles in a row but are not off to a great start this season, sitting 5th after eight games. That comes on the heels of a CHL group stage in which they lost four games by a single goal and were unlucky to come out with only 1 point. Curtis Gedig leads the team with 6 points in 5 Ligaen games, while the team’s Cramo Top Scorer is Josh Soares, who scored the first CHL goal back in 2014.
