- Eisbären eliminated if they lose
- Kometa with the chance to move clear in second
- Eyes on Brno forward Luboš Horký
When the groups were drawn, few would have predicted that this game would be a must-win for Eisbären Berlin to stay in the tournament. Many would have thought it'd be a battle for the playoffs, but the previous three Game Days have changed that.
Kometa know that a win will move then four points clear of Neman Grodno, against whom they have a better Head-to-Head, ahead of the final two games. They'll also be looking for consecutive CHL home wins, and while a loss isn't catastrophic it does put pressure on them ahead of meeting Zug next month. Young forward Luboš Horký has 3+4 for Brno so far and has impressed.
For the Eisbären it really is simple - win, and do it in regulation if possible. A victory by overtime or shootout would keep them alive, but only just. The German side have managed only six goals in three games so far, while giving up 14, suggesting the route of their problems. They've also struggled with netminders - both Marvin Cüpper and Max Franzreb under 90% of shots saved.
