Kometa Brno are already through to the Round of 16 but their group stage duties aren’t totally done, as they still need 3 points from their two meetings with the Malmö Redhawks to secure 1st place in Group B. They’ll try to do that on home ice. The Redhawks, just a point back of Kometa, are also very much in the hunt for top spot, but first and foremost they’ll want to make sure they take care of advancing. To do that, they need just 1 point.
Kometa have so far won all four group-stage games they’ve played and they carried that momentum into the start of the Extraliga season, where they now sit 1st after nine games with 21 points. They enter this game against Malmö on a four-game winning streak, so the visitors from southern Sweden don’t have an easy task ahead of them with another large and loud Brno crowd expected. Former NHLer Martin Erat has been on fire with 9 points in seven games to start the season, with Hynek Zohorna the Cramo Top Scorer with 4 CHL points.
Malmö currently sit 5th in the SHL with two wins and two losses, and are coming off a wild 8-7 loss to Rögle on Saturday. Frederik Storm leads the team in scoring domestically with 7 points, while in the CHL Rhett Rakhshani and Andy Miele are tied for the scoring lead with 5 points each.
