- Malmö hold a three goal advantage after a 4 - 1 first leg win
- Emil Sylvegård added his fifth goal for the Redhawks in the first leg
- SC Bern will look to mount the comeback at home on Tuesday night
The Malmö Redhawks coming into the second leg of their Round of 16 clash with SC Bern holding a 4 – 1 advantage as they look to progress in the Champions Hockey League playoffs.
It took two late goals for the Redhawks to seal victory over SC Bern in the first clash, with two goals in the final six minutes to put the first leg out of reach, but now heading into a tough building to take on SC Bern who will play hosts, they’ll be well aware that a three goal advantage with 60 minutes to play hasn’t secured them a spot in the next round yet.
With Bern playing at home in their infamous PostFinance Arena, they’ll be looking to mount a huge comeback. In the two games since the first leg, they’ve played out a huge 7 – 0 victory, but fell in a shootout to Ambri-Piotta, and a tough 4 – 1 loss to Lausanne, so they’ll need to have short memories when the puck drops against Malmö.
Matthias Bieber was the only man to get on the scoresheet for Bern in the first meeting, and while the team has been defensively strong in the CHL so far, they’ll need a bit more of a goalscoring touch to try and overcome their Swedish opponents, and no doubt Jan Mursak will be one of the key components of any attack they’ll look to mount.
Malmö on the other hand will need to continue their impressive defensive work they’ve displayed all tournament long but will need to bounce back from a crushing 9 – 0 loss at the hands of Skellefteå in domestic action since the first leg.
Emil Sylvegård got on the scoresheet in the first meeting and sits tied with Lars Bryggman for five goals, the most on the team so they’ll rely on those two to generate the offense early to try and silence the home crowd and cruise to the next round of the Champions Hockey League.
