- Both teams are tied atop Group B with 9 points
- Munich have already secured a spot in the Round of 16
- Malmö need to gain 1 point or have Minsk lose 1 point to advance
This is a match-up between the two teams that will probably be emerging from Group B. Red Bull Munich and the Malmö Redhawks are both have nine points each, but due to different tiebreaking scenarios, Munich have already qualified while Malmö need just one point gained, or one point lost by Yunost Minsk to join them in the Round of 16. Whichever of these teams takes the most points from the two head-to-head games will be the group winner.
The Red Bulls have dominated the DEL in recent years but aren't off to a great start this season by their standards – they currently sit fifth in the 14-team league and haven't been able to get much momentum going. They lost 4-2 on Sunday at home to Ingolstadt. The Redhawks find themselves second place after seven SHL games and have won two in a row heading back into CHL play.
Munich have been led both domestically and internationally by the offence of Trevor Parkes and John Mitchell. Their offence has been bolstered by the addition of NHL veteran Matt Stajan, who has three points in nine DEL games so far and could make his CHL debut. Malmö’s top two scorers in the CHL have five points each – Lars Bryggman with five goals and no assists and Fredrik Händemark with no goals and five assists. Domestically, former Salzburg Red Bull and CHL veteran Konstantin Komarek leads the way with six points. Emil Molin will debut for the visitors.
