Vienna’s win Sunday night sees them five points clear at the top of the EBEL, but in the CHL they have a mountain to climb to make the next round. That starts with tonight’s home game against Zug, which the Capitals simply have to win – and do it in regulation.
“As long as it’s still mathematically possible, we’re going to give our all,” said head coach Serge Aubin ahead of the must-win game. “We are aware that Zug are one of the best teams in Europe. The Swiss have a very strong roster, are quick, and technically gifted. We have to play to our full potential to have a chance.”
For EVZ, two points would secure their place in the next round, and they come into the game off the back of a decent start in the NLA. Harold Kreis, head coach, said this of tonight’s opponents: “We expect a hard working and offensively potent team in Vienna. We must use our speed and physicality without taking penalties.”
