David Wolf scored twice and Garrett Festerling had three points as Adler Mannheim doubled HV71 Jönköping 6-3 at SAP Arena, Surprisingly, Die Adler have now beaten the Swedish champs twice and taken 9 out of 12 points overall to lead Group D, with their last two games against Esbjerg Energy.
HV71 led 2-1 after one period, but a shorthanded goal by Festerling early in the second period and an even-strength marker by Matthias Plachta let in the frame put Mannheim ahead with 20 minutes to go. After a flurry of goals early in the third it was 5-3, and Wolf's second with 2:07 to go salted it away.
Die Adler are now in a very strong position to advance to the next round. For HV71, it now comes down to their home-and-away series with Oceláři Třinec to determine the group's other qualifier, with the Swedes needing to take 5 of 6 points.
