EV Zug moved a step closer to qualifying for the Round of 16, and within one point of group leaders JYP Jyväskylä, with a convincing 6-3 win over the Finnish club. Garrett Roe turned in his second straight two-goal game for Zug.
The first period was played at a torrid pace with five goals scored. Zug struck first just 1:22 in with Timothy Kast one-timing a pass from Carl Klingberg right in front. Less than three minutes later, Juuso Vainio evened it with a big blast while the teams were skating 4-on-4. Then a pair of goals by Roe, one at even strength and one on the power play, gave Zug a two-goal lead, but Juha-Pekka Hytönen struck on the power play with just 15 seconds left in the period to bring JYP back within one.
Zug broke the game open in the second period with three straight goals, with Viktor Stålberg and Lino Martschini each getting a goal and an assist, and Roe recording his third point of the game. Mikko Mäenpää scored on the power play halfway through the third period for JYP, but it was too little, too late.
