Mannheim rallied though and got themselves back in the game through Matthias Plachta with exactly 34 minutes played, only for the visiting side to strike back 1:29 later through Jesper Jensen and make it 3-1.
Staring a two-goal reverse in the face, Die Adler got themselves a lifeline in the matchup as Plachta struck again with 2:22 to go to make it just 3-2 ahead of the return game.
