After an evenly played scoreless first half of the game, Gerrit Fauser scored the game’s only goal in the 34th minute when he put in a loose puck from and then was immediately belted into the end boards. They had some chances to make it 2-0 but Teemu Lassila made some saves, keeping his team within striking distance.
Felix Brückmann made 25 saves for the shutout, but he was definitely tested the most in the third period. Needing a goal, the home team started pressing and got three power plays in the final period, including two in the last eight minutes. With 1:20 to play, coach Vladimír Országh called a timeout and pulled Lassila to make it a 6-on-4 advantage, and it did produce a few good chances, including one in the dying seconds, but the goal never came.
