KAC looked like they were going to run away with their first Group H game in Gap, building up a 4-1 lead. However, Les Rapaces clawed away at their lead, working back to 4-3, before the Klagenfurters finally pulled away at the end with a pair of late goals.
The first period was fairly back and forth, with KAC holding the edge in play and getting most of their chances from in close - Matthew Neal scored twice with Thomas Koch getting a goal and an assist. Even the Gap goal right in the middle was created from hard work in front of the net.
In the second period, KAC ran into some penalty trouble and Gap made them pay. They struck twice on the power play - Dmitri Thillet with his second of the game on a 5-on-4, and then Eric Scheid on a 5-on-3 made brought his team to within a goal in the 32nd minute. However, try as they might, they just couldn’t get that equalizing goal, which would have so delighted the raucous home fans.
When David Fischer scored a power-play goal for KAC with 6:07 to go, it pretty much took the wind out of the Gap sails. A late marker made the final score 6-3.
