An overtime win over KalPa Kuopio was enough to keep Kometa Brno undefeated in the Champions Hockey League and top of Group B.
In front of almost 5,000 fans for the first CHL game in Brno, the home side had to come from behind in the opening period as Konsta Mäkinen put KalPa ahead with under two minutes gone. Vojtěch Němec levelled the scores with 8:09 played to make the score 1-1 after 20 minutes.
A middle period dominated by penalties eventually saw the visitors regain the lead. On a two-man advantage, Hungarian international Balázs Sebők poked home to put KalPa 2-1 up - a lead they carried into the break.
Kometa had chances to level in the third, but often shot wide or passed at the crucial moment. Eventually, the home crowd got what they were waiting for - amidst a scramble in front of the KalPa net, Lukáš Nahodil eventually fired it home with 5:55 to go.
In overtime, KalPa had a superb chance to win it but wasted the 2-on-0 opportunity. As both teams threw caution to the wind, Hynek Zohorna got the game-winner at 63:12.
