In their first appearance in the Champions Hockey League, Kometa Brno are on to the Quarter-Finals following two straight victories over EV Zug. After winning by a goal on home ice, they went into Switzerland and won 5-2. Lukáš Nahodil led the way with two goals.
After some chances at both ends, Nahodil’s first goal just shy of the 14-minute mark opened the scoring when he took a pass in front of the net from Tomáš Svoboda and snapped it home. In the last minute of the opening period, Rafael Diaz answered on the power play, firing a wrister over Karel Vejmelka’s shoulder.
At that point, Kometa’s aggregate lead was back to one, but two goals in the second period gave them a stranglehold on a Quarter-Final berth. Tomáš Mlynář scored on a rebound after Tobias Stephan stopped Adam Gajarský on a breakaway, and then Alexandre Maillet crashed the net on a power play.
Tomáš Bartejs’s power-play goal in the first minute of the third period and Nahodil’s second a minute later put it away. Lino Martschini added one more for Zug, but by then the result was out of reach.
