In their last meeting in Třinec on Sunday, Adler Mannheim were unable to beat Oceláři goalie Šimon Hrubec. In the rematch in Mannheim, however, they beat veteran Peter Hamerlík six times on 32 shots en route to a 6-2 win. The result pulls the two teams along with HV71 Jönköping into a three-way tie with 6 points at the halfway point. Ryan MacMurchy and Matthias Plachta each scored twice for Die Adler.
MacMurchy got things going just 22 seconds in, sweeping in a shot from in close as Mannheim went quickly to the attack, bringing to their feet the crowd of 6,314 - the largest of the CHL season so far. Then after Hamerlík stopped a 2-on-0 breakaway, Plachta scored twice to make it 3-0 by the end of the first period, and the Steelers were unable to climb out of that hole the rest of the way.
The score was 4-0 before Vladimír Dravecký and Jiří Polanský brought Třinec back within two, but they got no closer as Mannheim added another goal on the power play and shorthanded.
