Red Bull Munich were made to work hard for their 6-2 win over Comarch Cracovia, who kept the DEL Champions within two goals through two periods.
A tight first period in which the Red Bulls had the better scoring chances looked to be ending goalless until Florian Kettemer broke the deadlock with 17:45 played.
Into the middle period, and against the visitors kept it tight while trying to create chances of their own on the break. Eventually they did so, Damian Kapica sending the large travelling support wild at 32:16. With Cracovia running into penalty trouble the Red Bulls took full advantage, goals from Markus Lauridsen (35:51) and Jason Jaffray (39:08) gave them a 3-1 lead after 40 minutes.
Any hopes the home side had that Cracovia would give up in the final period were not to come to fruition, as the visitors shocked most of the arena when they pulled the score back to 3-2 - Maciej Urbanowicz getting on a loose puck from close range at 46:24. However again the Red Bulls stepped up a gear, Patrick Hager re-establishing their two-goal cushion on exactly 50 minutes. Then tired legs started to show from the visitors, and the hosts took full advantage - Jerome Flaake's goal at 57:05, followed by Andreas Eder at 57:31 put the game to bed to give Red Bull Munich a 6-2 win in a game where the final scoreline didn't do Cracovia justice.
