Martin Růžička and Šimon Hrubec were the difference in an otherwise evenly-played and tight-checking contest between Oceláři Třinec and Adler Mannheim. Růžička scored a goal in each period and Hrubec stopped all 27 shots he faced in a 3-0 win on home ice, which moves the Steelers into sole possession of top spot in Group D after two games.
Růžička’s first goal came early at the 3:43 mark when he used his speed to get to the net and redirected a perfect pass from Jiří Polanski past Dennis Endras. Other than the three goals from Růžička, Endras was also perfect in the Adler goal, making 25 saves.
Mannheim, who scored three power-play goals in Jönköping last game, had a great opportunity to tie the game with a couple of power plays in the second period. However, not only were they unable to beat Hrubec, but Růžička scored on a shorthanded breakaway in the 33rd minute. He then completed his hat-trick on the power play with 13:34 to play in regulation time.
“It was a very tough game and I’m very happy we managed to win it. Mannheim has a strong team but they didn’t surprise us with anything. We were well prepared. Now we have two victories, six points. We aim to reach the playoffs.”Martin Růžička, forward, Oceláři Třinec
