Oceláři Třinec started strong against Esbjerg Energy, pumping in four goals in the first period, and when the dust had settled, they had opened a new CHL season with a 9-1 win. Vladimír Svačina and Jakub Petružálek led the offence with 2 goals and 1 assist each.
Petružálek scored the first two goals of the game - the first one a big slapper at the 42-second mark, and then a power-play goal at 12:08. But it was two late goals 38 seconds apart by Daniel Rákos and Svačina that really put the game away, with the Steelers demonstrating their superior speed and passing skills.
Thanks to a 5-on-3 advantage, Esbjerg had a good start to the second period and got a goal just over a minute in, with Carson McMillan finishing off a nice passing play. They then kept the Třinec attack at bay for the next half a period, but then two goals 40 seconds apart served notice that the home team was in firm control. They added three more goals in the third period.
