- Skellefteå won big in Poland last week
- Tychy ran IFK Helsinki close, but Poland still without points in the CHL
- Polish fans expected to make road trip
A free-scoring Skellefteå team will be looking to put their fixture against GKS Tychy to bed in what is proving to be a three-horse race in Group C.
The Swedish side find themselves only a point behind HC Bolzano, to whom they narrowly lost in OT on Game Day 1. The result may have been exactly what Tommy Samuelsson’s side needed to break them into the tournament after they failed to qualify for it at all last season. GKS Tychy unfortunately happened to be the next team to play against Skellefteå, who channeled all their anguish and disappointment into a destructive 8-1 thrashing of the new Polish competitors.
The result made Skellefteå the third highest scoring team in the tournament with 11 goals and a reverse fixture against Tychy to potentially extend that further. Interesting the Swedes don't have a clear top scorer, with eight different goals scorers so far. Norwegian Forward Mathis Olimb may want some of the limelight for himself after assisting four of his team’s goals so far to make him their current LGT jersey wearer.
Tychy netminder John Murray will inevitably be busy again against Skellefteå, who’ve registered 93 shots on goal in their opening two matches. His team-mates will have to strike gold if they’re to leave the Swedish hockey town with any points on the table.
