- Connor Hughes earned his first shutout
- Fribourg netted two on the powerplay
- Stavanger couldn't convert on the man-advantage
Visiting side Fribourg-Gottéron produced one in the second and two more in the third and Connor Hughes earned his first shutout of the season as the Swiss side defeated the Stavanger Oilers 3-0.
Back-and-forth action characterised the play in the first period but the netminders stayed flawless with Hughes denying six chances and Henrik Holm turning away five for the home side to keep it level at 0-0.
Mistakes were made on both sides of the puck as the second period got underway, but again the goalies were there to bail their clubs out of danger. A couple of turnovers in close tested Holm eight minutes into the middle frame, but the Norwegian calmly turned them aside.
With just under two minutes to go, it seemed the second period was destined to end as the first until Julien Sprunger wired a one-timer on the powerplay past Holm to open the scoring 38:43 in and give the visitors the lead.
Fribourg found success again on the man-advantage a minute into the final period when Nathan Marchon guided the puck into the net off a rebound in front to put his team up by two.
Stavanger stuck around their opponents' net following Fribourg's second tally, pelting Hughes with several quick shots as they desperately tried to climb their way out of their two-goal hole. But for all their efforts, the home side failed to solve the Canadian netminder.
Still trailing, the hosts elected to pull their goalie but with the net empty and time winding down it was Christoph Bertschy from behind his own blue line who chucked the puck down the ice into the open cage to make it 3-0 before the final horn sounded.
