- Zurich nets three goals in the first period, with the first in the opening minute of the game
- Fehérvár get on the board early but couldn't close the deficit
- Zurich extended their lead with three goals in the third, closing the game 7-1
The ZSC Lions Zurich wasted no time getting to task, netting a goal less than a minute into the opening stanza. Defenceman Yannick Weber wristed one low, past the glove of Fehérvár netminder Oliver Roy making it 1-0 for the visiting side.
The Hungarians picked up their first powerplay of the night after a delayed call on Zurich, but the Lions had other ideas, and lit the lamp a second time, with a short-handed goal from Sven Andrighetto. Forward Simon Bodenmann picked up his first of the night extending the lead 3-0 for the Swiss side, this time on a powerplay.
Fehérvár's Daniel Szabo had a chance to close the gap but Šimon Hrubec had the angle covered. One change later the host side got on the scoreboard. A loose puck on the blade of Hungarian native Istvan Terbocs was buried at close range, sending a surge of energy into the crowd, and cutting the deficit down to two.
The game one jitters appeared to settle for the hosts in the second period, and with their reaction speed and forecheck adjusted, Zurich's earlier dominance dissipated. Fehérvár had plenty of solid chances but couldn't find the back of the net. Zurich were not without offense of their own, and capitalised on the man-advantage, with Bodenmann netting his second powerplay goal of the night.
Zurich minimised any chance of a comeback by their hosts, resuming control of the game in the third period. An unassisted goal from forward Dennis Hollenstein made it 5-1 for the Swiss side.
A lifeline was sent the way of the Hungarians after forward Garrett Roe took a penalty for interference, but Hrubec wasn't letting anything pass. Moments later Alexandre Texier put up a sixth, followed by a seventh from Hollenstein. A solid defensive scramble from Brett Findlay saw the puck scooped forward from the goal line, but on review the puck had deflected back off Roy, crossing the line.
With less than a minute remaining, Fehérvár pulled Roy for a sixth field player, but their remaining efforts would go unrewarded. The game closed with visiting side Zurich notching their first win of the season, and first win on the road.
