- Brace for Sacha Treille
- Jakub Lev scored 9 seconds into the game
- All three of Mountfield's first-line forwards scored
In a game that could have ended either way it is Czech Extraliga regular season winners Mountfield HK who take all three points. Grenoble ended the first period 2-1 up, but from there on it was Mountfield who did most of the scoring.
Mountfield got off to a blazing start as the Czech Extraliga's Iron Man Jakub Lev scored on the very first shot and very first attempt of the game. The Czech sniper found the back of Grenoble's net just 9 seconds in!
Grenoble didn't sit back though and by the time the two teams headed for the locker rooms for the first time, the French side were 2-1 up thanks to a brace from Sacha Treille.
The first half of the second period saw three penalties being dished out - two on Grenoble's side, one on Mountfield's. The Czechs would go on to score their second goal at 34:33 as a puck rolled just past the goal line after an unclear situation in front of the home team net. The goal went to video review but was deemed good by the officials to make the score an even 2-2.
Mountfield ended the second period with two rapid-fire goals in the final minute, with Jérémie Blain firing through the traffic at 39:19 and captain Radek Smoleňák finding the back of the net at 39:55 to make it 4-2 as his side headed off the ice.
Five minutes after the first puck of the final frame dropped, Damien Fleury of Grenoble got a quick pass from the boards and with a quick deek he moved free of the Mountfield defenceman and fired it straight into Henri Kiviaho's net to move his team to within a goal of the Czechs.
But that one-goal gap would prove too big a stretch for the French side as Mountfield dug deep and lasted out the storm in the final minutes of the game to take their first win of the season.
