- Zug overpower Ljubljana on shots 67-43
- Tadej Cimzar gets Ljubljana on the board in the 3rd
- Brian O'Neill nets two for Zug
Olimpija Ljubljana welcomed EV Zug for their debut face-off as part of Game day 5 action. There’s no doubt that the Slovenian newcomers had their work cut out for them, as they’ve yet to snatch a win in their debut CHL season. Zug, on the other hand, headed into this match undefeated and in the lead of Group C.
The Swiss veterans showed their suave early on, with a goal by Dario Simion and Jan Kovář with the assist at the 7:29 mark of the opening period. Despite Ljubljana’s attempts to deny Zug another chance to sneak one in, Brian O’Neill did just that, bringing a 2-0 lead for the Swiss at the end of the first frame.
The second period saw penalties on both sides, yet neither team were able to get something going until Brian O’Neill netted his second goal of the match, with the assist by Lino Martschini and Carl Klingberg, giving Zug a solid 3-0 lead throughout the remaining middle frame.
Just when it looked as though Ljubljana wouldn’t manage to get anything on the board, Tadej Cimzar swept one passed the Zug goaltender and into the net for the home team at the 49:49 mark.
It was a solid 3-1 lead when the final buzzer rang, cementing the Swiss club's uncontested standing in Group B!
