Following just a little over a minute later, Waltteri Merelä brought a smooth 2:0 lead for Tappara to close out the first period.
Good pressure from Rapperswil off the top of the second period, as they tried to get something going during their back-to-back powerplays when Tappara’s Tyler Kelleher was called for hooking and Patrik Virta for holding the stick, but the Swiss team were unable to maximize their advantage and get one on the scoreboard.
Despite missing their powerplay advantage, Tyler Kelleher got one in the net at 34:37, bringing a lush 3:0 lead for Tappara.
Off the start of the third period, Rapperswil came out flying, with Nicklas Jensen getting the first point on the board for the home team.
Tappara’s Valtteri Kemiläinen was called for slashing at 47:24, giving Rapperswil the chance they desperately needed to inch their way closer to a win.
Looking for a chance to make things happen, Rapperswil pulled out goalie Melvin Nyffeler in order to gain more offensive power. With a penalty called and subsequently reviewed and rejected for Tappara, Rapperswil lost their only real chance to turn this match around.
The disappointment for Rapperswil continued, as Jordan Schroeder nearly got one in the net.
Without a doubt, Rapperswil fought hard to secure a win at home, but Tappara proved victorious, with their second win on the road!
