- Katowice scored on only their second shot of the contest
- Shots were 24-2 in favour of Rögle after two periods
- Rögle's powerplay kept humming at home
The Swedes authored another commanding performance, outpacing and outplaying their opponents as Rögle Ängelholm earned their fourth win of the season besting GKS Katowice 5-1.
Rögle's powerplay kept humming in this Saturday matinee as Riley Sheen scored on the man-advantage to put his team up by one four minutes in. It was a cross-ice dish from William Wallinder that found Sheen sneaking in the backdoor to put it past John Murray.
A slick put away from Oskar Stål Lyrenäs doubled the hosts' lead at 14:15. Marco Kasper sped through the neutral zone before dishing it off to Linus Sjödin whose curl-and-drag froze the netminder as the puck eventually found Stål Lyrenäs for the tuck.
Powerplays would continue to be a factor for both sides. Midway through the second, the Poles would finally find themselves on the right side of things when Matias Lehtonen rifled one into the Rögle net on Katowice's second shot of the game to cut the deficit to one.
Minutes later, however, the home side answered right back on their man-advantage with an Adam Tambellini tally. Tambellini and Wallinder played catch near the blueline before the defenceman fed one towards the Canadian who one-timed it past Murray.
With the middle frame coming to a close it was all Rögle all the time, maintaining possession for long stretches and outshooting their opponents 24-2 through two periods.
Katowice began the final stanza in the same position the Swedes were in on their Game Day 1 fixture, down 3-1.
But unlike their Swedish counterparts, the Polish side failed to come out firing as the hosts continued to dictate the pace, and with two gone in the third another Rögle powerplay would mean another Rögle goal. Tambellini scored his second of the game, threading one by Murray from the right circle to extend his team's lead to 4-1.
Undisciplined plays were Katowice's undoing in the third as Murray was beaten again on the man-advantage when Brady Ferguson slid one five-hole with 30 seconds remaining. With that, Rögle's five tallies secured three more points in the standings for the Swedish side.
