- Shots on goal: Färjestad 43-22 Biel-Bienne
- Lindqvist & Kellman: 2 points each for Färjestad
- Toni Rajala: 5 SOG, 4 blocked shots for Biel-Bienne
Färjestad Karlstad allowed the first goal, then came back to defeat previously unbeaten EHC Biel-Bienne 4-1 to earn their second win of the Champions Hockey League season. Färjestad’s pattern of failing to generate on their chances continued for much of this game. They outshot Biel-Bienne 15-5 after one period but managed to leave the period trailing 1-0.
The opening goal came at 11:27 when Ian Derungs sent a long pass to the far blueline to spring Ramon Tanner on a breakaway. Tanner made no mistake, firing a shot under the blocker-side arm of Carl Lindbom.
Färjestad continued to generate chances in the second period and thought they’d tied it midway through when David Tomášek found Top Scorer Michael Lindqvist at the far post. Lundqvist re-directed the puck toward the open near side but the puck went off the post, then bounced along the goal line to Harri Säteri, who covered it.
They finally did tie it a couple of minutes later, though. Victor Ejdsell took a shot from the point through a crowd that Säteri stopped but fell down behind the Finnish goalie and sat in the crease where Joel Kellman was able to tap it in.
Färjestad took their first lead of the game five minutes into the third period. After a near miss on their earlier combination, Lindqvist and Tomášek made good this time off the rush, with Lundqvist starting and finishing the give-and-go.
Then with seven minutes to go, they added some insurance on a Kellman one-timer from the point, his second of the game.
Biel-Bienne were unable to get anything back, despite a late powerplay, and Joakim Nygård added a late empty-netter to seal it.
