- Färjestad secured goals in all situations
- The Swedes outshot the Danes 46-15
- Maxime Lagacé earned his first shutout
Maxime Lagacé stopped all 15 shots he faced, earning his first shutout as he helped Färjestad Karlstad take down the Aalborg Pirates 8-0 in a Game Day 4 fixture that saw the Swedish side dismantle their opponents from the first puck drop.
It was all Färjestad from the get-go as the Swedish side managed to find the net twice in the span of 41 seconds four minutes into the contest.
Albert Adamsen made the initial save off a shot from August Tornberg but the puck bounced loose in the crease with Henrik Björklund in position to put it home. David Tomášek doubled his club's lead off a feed from Magnus Nygren at 5:08, and with that, the Swedish side set the tone for the rest of the game.
Tobias Ladehoff had a chance to cut into the lead with a penalty shot attempt but his patience with the puck was outmatched by Lagacé who made the stop.
The home side added to their advantage courtesy of Marcus Westfält. Westfält was able to separate himself from the Danish defenders and bunt the puck past Adamsen to make it 3-0.
Solid defence led to solid offence as Joakim Nygård stripped the puck in his own zone, skated up the near side and teed one up for Michael Lindqvist who lifted it over the glove of the Aalborg netminder for their fourth marker of the first.
Not much else would come from either side but a dominant first period paved the way for Färjestad to come out in the second with a comfortable lead.
Lagacé was sharp to start the second, denying some quality chances from an Aalborg squad that upped the tempo of play in an effort to put a dent in the Swedes' lead. But for all their effort, the Danes came up empty as the second turned into a battle of the netminders with Adamsen stopping all shots from Färjestad during the middle frame.
Following a scoreless second period, the Swedes got back to work in the third with a flurry of tallies to start the final frame. Tomášek notched his second of the evening, then Joel Kellman added a shorthanded marker at 48:13 after Henrik Björklund caused some chaos at the Aalborg blueline.
Oscar Lawner rounded out the scoring with his first of the season on the man-advantage 33 seconds later to put the hosts up 7-0 with still half a period to play.
More tallies came for a Swedish side that found the net for an eighth time as Lawner secured his second. And with that, Färjestad would welcome their third win and three more points to continue their bid for the European Trophy.
