- Genève secured their first points of the tournament
- Košice's Mário Lunter and Filip Krivošík each posted two points
- Shots were 25-14 in favour of Genève
A close contest between HC Košice and Genève-Servette saw the Swiss side triumph over the Slovaks in a 3-2 decision to earn their first points of the 2023/24 Champions Hockey League.
Košice's powerplay made its debut in the opening period, but a lack of sustained offence for either side resulted in a scoreless first as both clubs headed for the locker room with hosts leading in shots 5-3.
As puck dropped on period two, it was the Slovakians who drew first blood when Filip Krivošík got control of the puck and patiently guided it around Gauthier Descloux's pads to break the deadlock and give his team the lead.
But a deflection from an impossible angle would even things up a little over four minutes later. Noah Rod got his stick on Tanner Richard's shot as the puck sailed between the pads of Dominik Riečický to make it a 1-1 game just as Genève's powerplay time expired.
The visitors followed up their first tally with a Theodor Lennström marker to put his team on top. Lennström mananged his first goal of the tournament and second point of the night when he roofed it top right corner on a wicked wrister from just inside the near circle.
Košice would come back with their second off a face-off win in their own zone. Krivošík won the puck back to Mário Lunter who took his time with it before wiring it top shelf, beating Descloux clean. And with that, the Swiss and Slovaks entered the final frame in a 2-2 tie.
Third period action began with Genève scoring the go-ahead goal at the 44:41 mark. Josh Jooris stuffed home a rebound after Riečický made the initial save on a Simon Le Coultre shot.
As the game entered the closing minutes, the Swiss continued to hem the Slovaks in their zone and with no real opportunities to find the equaliser, Košice would go on to drop their second CHL contest while Genève would secure their first win.
