- Clubs are tied 2-2 on aggregate
- Second period saw three goals scored in quick succession
- Both teams played a disciplined game
Genève-Servette scored one in the first and one more in the second while Lukko Rauma potted two in the middle frame as the Swiss and Finns are tied at 2-2 on aggregate heading into their Return Game in Finland next week. Genève's Jussi Olkinuora stopped 17 of 19 shots while Daniel Lebedeff halted 21 of 23.
Marco Miranda got Genève on the board at 8:14 of the first when he wristed one through the five-hole of Lebedeff to open the scoring for the hosts. Miranda received a pass in the neutral zone before skating through the near circle and sliding it through Lebedeff's pads to give the Swiss the early lead.
Both sides continued to trade chances as the clock wound down in the initial stanza, and after one it was Lukko narrowly leading in shots 8-6 but still trailing by one despite having some of the better opportunities of the period.
Second-period action saw three goals netted within the span of four and half minutes as the Finns found the net twice while Genève managed one marker.
Julius Mattila secured the equaliser for his club at 24:34. The 26-year-old corralled the loose puck near the left face-off dot before firing it top shelf from a sharp angle to beat Olkinuora. A little over two minutes later, the visitors took the lead when Gabriel Fontaine found twine on a partial breakaway.
The home side, however, responded with a tally of their own midway through the frame. Giancarlo Chanton received a feed above the near circle before dusting it off and wiring it past the glove of Lebedeff for his first of the campaign.
An eventful second period was followed by a much tamer third as failed opportunities at both ends of the ice prevented either club from taking a lead on aggregate.
With the score still knotted at 2-2 after the First Game, both squads still have a chance to punch their ticket to the Final in next week's Return Game where Lukko will have the home-ice advantage.
