- Pardubice's special teams were outstanding
- The Czechs outshot Stavanger 49-26
- Stavanger fell for third straight time
Dynamo Pardubice scored two in the first, two in the second, and added one in the third to come away with a 5-1 win over the Stavanger Oilers. The Czechs' powerplay went 3-7 and Milan Klouček made his second start, stopping 25 shots to help propel Pardubice to their second win of the 2023/24 CHL campaign.
Pardubice's powerplay was firing on all cylinders in the opening stanza, producing a pair of tallies to open the scoring and give the Czechs the early edge.
First, a Tomáš Hyka one-timer from the near circle beat Henrik Holm to give the Czech his first goal and third point of the campaign. Ten minutes later, Hyka notched his fourth point after feathering a cross-ice pass to David Cienciala who quickly deposited the puck into the back of the net to extend the hosts' lead to 2-0.
After 20 minutes, Pardubice held a 23-3 shot advantage as the home side continued to put the pressure on while Stavanger struggled to keep puck possession.
The Czechs continued to control the pace of play as second period action got underway.
Robert Kousal made good on another Pardubice powerplay to increase the hosts' lead to 3-0. Kousal retrieved the puck from a faceoff win, picked his spot and fired stick side high. Then, the home side added a fourth when Tomáš Zohorna connected with Jan Mandát on the rush. Mandát corralled the puck before rocketing it past Holm to secure his second of the campaign.
Less than a minute later, however, Sondre Bjerke gave Stavanger some life when he cashed in on his own rebound to cut into the deficit and make it 4-1. After receiving a pass in the neutral zone, the defenceman barreled through the slot where he wristed one on net. Klouček made the initial pad save, but Bjerke pounced on the loose puck and lifted it past the sprawling netminder.
The Norwegians had their chances to battle back in the third with their best opportunities coming on back-to-back powerplays. But Pardubice continued to make life difficult for the visitors and would go on to cement their victory with a late-period wrap-around tally from Tomáš Zeman.
After coming back from a four-goal deficit in their previous fixture, Stavanger were unable to muster the same magic leaving the Norwegians still searching for their first points while Pardubice celebrate back-to-back wins.
