- Lahti registered eight different goal scorers
- Teams scored 18 seconds apart
- The Finns scored six in the first
The Lahti Pelicans lit the lamp eight times, including six in the first period, en route to an 8-3 thrashing over the Rouen Dragons.
The French and Finnish exchanged tallies just 18 seconds apart, but then it was all Lahti as the visitors went on to notch five more tucks in the opening period.
Antonín Honejsek kicked off the scoring when he stuffed home a puck backdoor for his first of the tournament 45 seconds into the game to put Rouen up 1-0.
But the French side's lead wouldn't last long as Konsta Hirvonen nabbed the equaliser off a deke in close. Ryan Lasch got on the scoresheet when he assisted on Patrik Carlsson's tally to give the visitors a 2-1 advantage.
Lahti continued their onslaught with their third of the period thanks to Aatu Jämsen who separated himself from the defence just enough to wrist one from the slot past Matija Pintarič.
The Finns found their fourth goal from their fourth goal scorer in Lasch and then a fifth from Lars Bryggman, this time on the powerplay.
A shorthanded goal from Francis Perron would appear to give Rouen some life, but their momentum was short-lived as Petteri Riihinen would go on to secure Lahti's sixth, increasing the score to 6-2.
Trouble continued to follow Rouen as, near the end of the period, top defenceman Sacha Guimond was assessed a Game Misconduct.
This sent the Finns on an extended five-minute powerplay that eventually spilled over into the second as the eight-goal opening stanza mercifully came to an end for the struggling French side.
Second period action began with Lahti increasing the goal gap to five when Sakke Hämäläinen found twine on the backhand on the powerplay.
As the middle frame came to an end, Rouen managed to withstand the Finns' offensive clinic and finish the period relatively unscathed.
But the French side's mountain continued to grow larger as the visitors secured another early goal to make it 8-2 35 seconds in with a Kasper Puutio tally.
Marcel Haščák would score the third goal for Rouen to cut into the Finns' lead, but the contest remained out of reach as Lahti sailed to their first victory in decisive fashion.
