- Zug advance to their second consecutive Semi-Finals appearance in CHL
- Lukko let in three unanswered goals, couldn't match the Swiss side's intensity
- Grégory Hofmann: 2G; Leonardo Genoni stopped 30 of 30 shots
Three unanswered goals in the second propelled EV Zug past Lukko Rauma as the Swiss mounted a comeback to take this Champions Hockey League Quarter-Finals series with a 4-3 aggregate win. Grégory Hofmann notched the game-deciding goal and Leonardo Genoni denied 30 of 30 shots en route to the victory.
Zug manufactured the game's first goal early on in the second when Hofmann skated into a Mike Künzle feed to get his team on the board and bring the Swiss to within one goal on aggregate against Lukko. Künzle gathered the puck behind the net before finding Hofmann who netted it from point-blank range at 21:25.
Ten minutes later, the Swiss secured the aggregate-tying goal on a Tomáš Tatar backhander from in close. A giveaway below the red line eventually found Tatar's stick as he sashayed around one defender before bringing the puck to his backhand and shovelling it past Antti Raanta.
Zug's powerplay helped the hosts continue their middle stanza ascent, as they generated their third straight thanks to Hofmann's second of the night. Sven Senteler found the forward in the right circle as he one-timed it past the opposing netminder to give his side a one-goal aggregate lead.
Still down a goal late in the third, Lukko pulled Raanta with hopes of finding the tying goal, but Zug's defence spearheaded by Genoni's efforts in net, would be enough to elevate the Swiss to a place in the Semi-Finals.
