- Berlin put up 6 as they cruise past Lugano
- Lugano still in the race for the Playoffs
- Blaine Byron has a career night with 2G and 1A.
Eisbären Berlin made short work of HC Lugano breezing past the Swiss by a final of 6-3.
A fiesty first period saw Lugano open the scoring when Alessio Bertaggia tickled the top shelf with a one-timer past Berlin's Tobias Ancicka. Berlin stormed back 13:51 into the game with a goal by Simon Després that found its way past Thibault Fatton. Mark Zengerle made it 2-1 shortly thereafter when he made a power move in front of the net and let go a backhander that slid past the Swiss netminder to give Berlin a lead that they would not let go of.
The hosts continued to force Lugano to play in their zone to begin the second which led to Leonhard Pföderl giving the club its third tally and extending their lead by two. A little later, a Blaine Byron deflection from a point shot found its way in, increasing the home side's lead and chasing Fatton from his crease.
Midway through the middle stanza, Lugano answered on the man-advantage courtesy of a Thurkauf marker giving the forward his second point and cutting the deficit in half. Byron's spectacular second period continued when he found the net for a second time, and just like that, the Germans were back on top by three.
A stingy Berlin defence foiled any attempts of a Swiss comeback as the puck dropped for the final frame.
Things kept going Berlin's way in the third. Yannick Veilleux gave the home side some extra breathing room with a highlight-reel goal at 43:34.
Lugano gained some life in the dying minutes when Calvin Thurkauf lit the lamp for his second of the night. But Thurkauf's tally would be the last for his team and the last for the game, as the German side secured their first regulation win to the delight of the home crowd.
