- Lukko Rauma strike three times in the first period
- Matt Register and Josh Waller both 1+1 for Cardiff
- Lukko finish top of Group C with win and an Adler Mannheim loss on game day six
With the qualifiers from Group C already decided, there was still plenty to play for when the Cardiff Devils hosted Lukko Rauma. Cardiff were eying up third, while Rauma were hoping for a top spot finish.
The Devils started strong but couldn't make any of their pressure pay off, and when Lukko found their rhythm, they struck.
Linus Nyman opened the scoring, jumping on a rebound as the quickest to react and firing the puck past Taran Kozun in the Cardiff net for the opening score of the game.
The vistiors doubled their advantage shortly after with the goal review seemingly taking longer than the time it took for Lukko Rauma to net their second. When the referee finally gave the signal, it was Jeremi Tammela confirmed to have snuck one in shortside from a tight angle to make it a 2-0 game.
Late in the period as the Devils ran into penalty trouble, Lukko Rauma extended their lead further, as Harri Kainulainen pulled a nice move in close, beating Kozun and making it a 3-0 game heading into the second period.
The teams kept the referees busy midway through the third. Both clubs saw a player go to the box at the same time, and then the Devils were shorthanded moments later. This set up Scott Pooley to show why he's wearing the top scorer jersey for Lukko Rauma as he buried a powerplay goal just after the midway point of the period.
To cap off a busy 60 seconds for the referees, the Devils then found their way onto the scoresheet, with Matt Register firing one in from the high slot.
Another penalty came shortly after which put the Devils a man to the good, and Josh Waller made that count early on with a shot from the left circle to make it a 4-2 game.
Any hopes of a comeback seemed to be squashed though when Linus Nyman grabbed his second of the night to make it 5-2 for the visitors late in the period.
Midway through the final period, the Devils narrowed the gap once again when a shot from out wide by Register was kicked away by Samuel Jukuri, but Brodie Dupont was on hand to fire in the rebound, making it 5-3.
Lukko put the final goal on the board with Linus Nyman finding the empty net to secure a 6-3 win and the Devils bow out with a vailiant effort in their final game. Lukko Rauma secure top spot with the win and an Adler Mannheim loss earlier on game day six.
