- Munich: 5/8 on powerplay
- TPS still searching for first points of the tournament
- Christensen: 3 goals, 2 assists for Munich
Red Bull Munich did a number on TPS Turku of Finland, in a convincing 5–1 win in front of their home fans at the Olympia-Eisstadion, giving themselves six points in Group B of the Champions Hockey League, level with the Malmo Redhawks, while TPS are at risk of not qualifying from their group for the second year running.
After a scoreless first period, Red Bull Munich started to take control of the game early into the second period as Mads Christensen scored on the powerplay to open his scoring account this season, on what was to be a big night for the Danish international. Late into the period, Munich added another, this time Christensen was the supplier as Trevor Parkes grabbed the teams second powerplay marker of the game.
It was more of the same in the final period, Mads Christensen was scoring and setting guys up, and the powerplay was working well all night long. Christensen found the net with just over five minutes played in the third period on the powerplay, and less than a minute later with the team still on a powerplay after a 2+2 checking from behind call against TPS’s Jani Forsström, he got an assist as Justin Shugg added a fourth powerplay goal of the night. TPS did manage to respond with a powerplay marker of their own after some great tape-to-tape passing late in the third found Simon Suoranta alone in front of net, ending Danny aus den Birken’s shutout bid, but it was too little too late as Munich scored another powerplay goal late in the period, with Mads Christensen completing his hat trick, either scoring or assisting on ever goal for Munich on the night, who skated away with a well earned three points.
