- Both teams secure Playoffs places on the final day of Regular Season
- Petr Hamalčík: 25-save shutout
- Frédéric Allard: 5 blocked shots, 18:22 TOI for Davos
Bílí Tygři Liberec and HC Davos are both off to the Champions Hockey League Playoffs following Liberec’s win in southern Switzerland on the last day of the Regular Season. Defenceman Tomáš Galvas had a goal and an assist in the winning effort and Petr Hamalčík made 25 saves for the shutout.
Liberec started strong in each of the first two periods.
They opened the scoring off the rush at 2:15. Just inside the blueline, Jaroslav Vlach’s long shot beat Sandro Aeschlimann over the glove-side shoulder.
Then in the first minute of the second period, the Czech visitors went up by two again again, it was off the rush. This time it was Galvas, who carried the puck from his own zone all the way to the high slot in the Davos zone before beating Aeschlimann high to the blocker side.
Davos really came on in the second period but were unable to beat Hamalčík. Their best chance came in the 35th minute when the Czech goalie was down and out but Jaromír Pérez swept the puck away from the goal line in a mad scramble.
Davos seemed frustrated in the third period and Liberec played confident defensively. With under two minutes to play, Davos coach Josh Holden pulled Aeschlimann for a sixth attacker. However, the best scoring chance went to Liberec, who hit the goalpost from long distance.
In the end, Liberec were happier than Davos with the outcome but both teams are moving on.
