- Lino Martschini 1+3
- Mark Oliver 1+1
- Both goalies under 90% saves
EV Zug fought back to topple Eisbären Berlin with a strong final period after originally being 3-1 down.
A goal from both sides in the first period, with Zug’s coming just 20 seconds after Berlin’s, set the stage for this affair which saw the resilience of the Swiss tested until the end. After assisting Berlin’s first goal, forward Mark Olver decided he wanted one for himself when he placed home a shot right in front of the net. The goal inspired the Germans to score a third only a minute later with the help of Zug defenceman Santeri Atalo, who watched on from the penalty box after receiving four minutes for high sticking.
Berlin didn’t learn from Zug’s mistakes and conceded three powerplay goals of their own, the second of which saw helpless net-minder Franzreb screened by forwards Klingberg and Louis Marc-Aubry who were roughing. An empty net goal in the third completed the victory for Zug, who will enjoy the top spot in Group D while it lasts.
