- Six different goal scorers
- Vitali Trus saves 91.18% of shots
- EV Zug take maximum points in both road games
EV Zug’s offence proved to be too strong for hosts Neman Grodno, who were applauded off the ice for their resilient performance despite going down by a pair of goals.
It took two hits off the pipe by EV Zug before the visitors found the icebreaker in this game. Forward Lino Martschini was on hand to strike home the special effort that was needed to beat either of these net-minders in this intensely fought battle.
Neither side deserved to lose this encounter, which found itself level three minutes into the third period. Gredno’s Alexander Malyavko utilised everything but his teammates to score the goal, which went in off a Zug defenceman.
A goal for each team, including Sergei Smurov’s third of the tournament, left this game level again with overtime looming. Zug, who never found themselves a goal down in the match, had other ideas scoring two late goals to seal their top spot in Group D.
"We had a good lesson how to work with the puck and how to play in counterattacks. It was bad idea to go attacking after we equalised, it would have been better to be more careful in our own zone."Vitali Trus (Goalie, Neman Grodno)
"It was really great crowd and great atmosphere in Grodno today, but we were prepared. Luckily we played our A game today and got the win."Reto Suri - scored the GWG for EV Zug
