- Penalty filled first period for both teams
- Salzburg netminder Jean-Philippe Lamoureux exits in the first period with a suspected injury
- Frisk Asker had many opportunities but struggled to capitalise
It was a choppy first period littered with penalties by both teams, but Salzburg had the most chances, and ultimately outshot their hosts 41-23 to notch their first win of the season. Frisk Asker took the first powerplay of the game after Mats Frøshaug took a slashing penalty, and netminder Nicklas Dahlberg was quickly tested with a flurry of shots.
Shortly after, Salzburg forward Florian Baltram took a two-minute penalty for tripping, giving the Norwegian side their first man-advantage, Asker had a sensational couple of opportunities, including one shot at point-blank range, but netminder Jean-Philippe Lamoureux had it covered.
The Austrian visitors picked up another four minutes of powerplay action thanks to penalties from Esbjørn Leiv Fogstad Vold and Mats Frøshaug. With the man-advantage American forward Ty Loney stepped out from close range to pick up his first goal of the season, and give the Austrians a 1-0 lead.
Moments later Salzburg took two simultaneous penalties giving Asker a valuable 5-3 advantage. An outstretched Jean-Philippe Lamoureux made a sensational save but left the ice seconds later with a suspected injury. As replacement netminder Nicolas Wieser slotted in cold, Asker's Hampus Gustafsson quickly found the back of the net to equalize 1-1 before the teams headed in for the first intermission.
Minutes into the second period Salzburg reclaimed the lead after Terrance James Brennan netted a goal off a rebound making it 2-1. Frisk Asker were unlucky not to equalise the game, following three more penalties by the Austrians. A net-front scramble saw Salzburg extend their lead 3-1, courtesy of 19-year-old forward Danjo Leonhardt who picked up his first goal of the night.
The scoring opened up in the third period for Salzburg who netted two more early goals from Thomas Raffl and Mario Huber making it 5-1. Asker were able to reduce their deficit 5-2 after a slick penalty shot goal by forward Viktor Granholm, who was on the receiving end of a slashing penalty by defenceman Keegan Stephen Kanzig.
Further penalties by the Norwegian side hampered any chance of a comeback, with Salzburg's Ty Loney picking up his second powerplay goal of the night, and the Austrians closing out a convincing 6-2 win on the road.
