- No player on either team had more than 1 point
- Gustafsson & Mattsson combine for 25 saves for Frölunda
- Frölunda alone in 1st place in Group A
In yet another tight game between the Frölunda Indians and ZSC Lions Zurich, the second meeting between these teams this season was tied 1-1 halfway through the third period and finished 4-2 in Frölunda’s favour.
After a defensive and rather evenly-played first period, the teams came out flying at the start of the second and traded powerplay goals. First Roman Červenka used a burst of speed to split the Frölunda defence and then beat Johan Gustafsson with a forehand deke to open the scoring for Zurich. But then two quick Zurich penalties gave Frölunda a two-man advantage and LGT Top Scorer Chay Genoway had time and space to tee up a blast from the high slot that blew past Niklas Schlegel.
The two teams settled back down again but early in the third period, Gustafsson was forced out of the Frölunda goal after suftering a cut above his eye and was replaced by Johan Mattsson. With less than eight minutes to play, goals by Viktor Ekbom and Mats Rosseli-Olsen appeared to put it away for Frölunda. But with their goaltender out for a sixth attacker, Zurich applied the pressure and Pius Suter brought them within a goal with 1:57 to play. That was short-lived, however, as Max Friberg’s empty-netter rounded out the scoring.
