- Genève win in shootout
- Storhamar take one point
- Storhamar equalise with extra attacker and empty net
Storhamar Hamar visited Switzerland to face Genève-Servette for their third game of the season. With both teams desperate for points, an intense battle unfolded, leaving each side with a slice of the cake to show for their efforts.
The game began favourably for the visitors, as Storhamar earned two early powerplay opportunities. Genève successfully killed off the first tripping penalty, but the same can’t be said about the second powerplay. With just 30 seconds of the advantage left, Sverre Rønningen fired a shot from the blue line that was stopped by Genève's goalie, but Cole Schneider was perfectly positioned to tap in the rebound, giving Storhamar a 1-0 lead.
Despite multiple shots on goal by the Swiss, Markus Røhnebæk Stensrud held firm for the Norwegian side. Genève also had a powerplay chance later in the period, but failed to capitalise, leaving the score 1-0 at the break.
Storhamar extended their lead just two minutes into the second period when Victor Svensson netted a rebound to make it 2-0. However, Genève ended their scoring drought at 29:00 with a powerplay goal from Michael Špaček who placed a well-aimed shot to bring the score to 2-1.
The third period delivered another dose of drama with three goals. Michael Špaček tied the game for Genève, once again on the powerplay, after a cross-checking call against Storhamar. Not long after, Josh Jooris put Genève in the lead, finishing off a three-on-one breakaway.
Despite holding the lead for a few minutes, Genève couldn't seal the win in regulation as Storhamar managed to equalise with an extra attacker to send the game into overtime, and eventually, a shootout.
In the end, Genève came out victorious, securing two points, while Storhamar took home one for their admirable effort on the road.
