GKS Tychy came close to securing Poland's first ever point in the Champions Hockey League but were ultimately beaten 5-3 by IFK Helsinki.

An early goal had the home fans in raptures as GKS took the lead after just 4:33 when Tomáš Sykora slotted home from the slot. IFK tied the game through Johan Motin with 1:51 left on the period, and then went ahead at 26:35 through Ryan O'Connor's rocket on the powerplay.

However the home side fought back and two goals in less than two minutes had the arena rocking. Filip Komoski leveled the scores, and at 31:05 Michael Cichy calmly slotted home to put the hosts in front again. IFK were though straight back in it through Markus Kankaanperä just over 90 seconds later.

The hosts were made to rue some missed chances as IFK re-gained the lead with just under 17 minutes to go, Motin again, while with 51:12 on the board Lucas Lessio made the game safe.
