The first meeting between Tappara Tampere and Storhamar Hamar ended in a shootout thriller that saw Patrick Thorensen score three when it came to penalty shots, and with Storhamar having a great return to the Champions Hockey League, they were hoping for another spirited performance in their first taste of an away game, while Tappara were out for revenge following their opening game loss to their Norwegian opponents.

In front of their home fans for the first time this season, Tappara put on a great first period to get the crowd into it. Juhani Jasu opened the scoring for the Finnish side, ripping a powerful one-timer on the powerplay to go 1-0 up, and then two goals in the 13th minute from Tomáš Záborsky and Otto Rauhala forced the Norwegians to use their timeout early in the opening stages of the game.

In the second period, Niko Ojamäki grabbed two for Tappara to extend the lead to 5-0, leaving a mountain to climb for Storhamar with just 20 minutes remaining. Storhamar finally managed to solve veteran netminder Niklas Bäckström as team captain Thorensen continued his impressive tournament, but another goal from Tomáš Záborsky sealed the deal with a huge 6-1 victory.
