Frölunda Indians survived a scare on Game Day 1 of the Champions Hockey League by coming from behind to beat the Vienna Capitals.
After a goalless first period the home side took the lead with Patrick Schneider coming in at the back post to scoop the puck home with 21:46 played. It was a lead that the Capitals held for most of the middle period until they were undone by three quick goals from the visitors. First Joel Lundqvist struck with a trademark finish from the slot, set up by an inch-perfect pass from Charles Genoway. Then 1:29 later Linus Nässén fired home a rebound to put the Indians in front at 38:24, and third with 33 seconds left on the period all-but sealed the hosts' fate, Max Friberg with the goal.
The Capitals battled in the final period but were unable to find a way back into the game - Genoway adding Frölunda's final goal with 1:31 left on the board. Frölunda top the group outright after the win, while Vienna will hope for more against Aalborg in two days time.
