It was a case of better late than never in this game for Jarkko Immonen, JYP’s top point scorer in the tournament last year, who finally got his Champions Hockey League scoring campaign under way.  He opened the scoring with the only goal of the first third after tipping in a shot from the blue line. His side took full advantage of an opportunity to improve their previously under-performing powerplay percentage against a Slovak team that racked up 55 penalty minutes.

A goal 30 seconds into the second period by Jaako Jominen inspired JYP to score a further two; a mistake from netminder Samuel Baroš gifted David Tomášek his fourth point of the tournament while Éric Perrin lifted his shot home to complete a brilliant passing move made by his teammates.

Bystrica’s performance was epitomised in the last period when Tomášek scored his second with a powerplay goal shortly after the visitors wasted a two-man breakaway chance. They unsurprisingly finished the game on the penalty kill after defenceman Benjamin Marshall was given five minutes for a hit on Markus Jokinen. JYP had the last laugh however scoring with 50 seconds left in the game to register a fourth powerplay goal and a much-needed win in the group.
