- Shots on goal were 24-14 in favour of Tappara Tampere
- Matthew Neal scores third period winner
- Teams traded goals in the second period, scoring one powerplay goal each
KAC Klagenfurt gave Finnish side Tampara Tampere a rude awakening in Austria, as the hosts ran out 3-2 winners in their first game back in the CHL after a year away. It was a closely fought team, and both teams traded goals, but KAC eventually ran out winners with a third period goal, to give the side a vital three points in their quest to make it out of Group A.
The hosts had the better of the early play and capitalised on a Tappara too many men penalty through Thomas Hundertpfund. Some smart passing on the point by KAC fed the puck to Hundertpfund, who fired the shot home.
The teams traded goals in an even second period. French forward Charles Bertrand found the back of the net, before Daniel Obersteiner capitalised on a Tappara turnover in their own zone. Sami Moilanen tied the game at 2-2 heading into the final period with a laser of a wristshot top corner on KAC netminder Karl Haugen. In the final frame, Tappara piled the pressure on but against the run of play, Matthew Neal broke in down the left wing and beat Christian Heljanko short side to seal the three points for KAC.
