Both KAC Klagenfurt and Rungsted Seier Capital took overtime wins in their opening games of the 2021/22 Champions Hockey League, but only one could win back to back when the two sides met in Austria on Sunday night.

After a scoreless opening period, Sebastian Sorensen of Rungsted found the opening marker. A quick pass to exit the zone sent Sorensen on his way, and he made a couple of moves to try and create space as he hit the blueline with speed, before firing a wrist shot on net, beating goalie Sebastian Dahm to give the visitors the advantage, despite Klagenfurt looking the more in control at that point of the game.

Klagenfurt had their chances but couldn't quite get anything to go until Nicholas Peterson showed why he was wearing the top scorer jersey, making a quick move to tie the game on the powerplay, as Klagenfurt finally got on the scoresheet on their 20th shot on goal.

The hosts came close to taking the lead with another quick goal right off the faceoff, but while Rungsted goalie Ville Kolppanen was out of position, the shot went wide to keep it tied at one heading into the final period.

Peterson was at it again early in the third, giving Klagenfurt their first lead of the night, ripping a shot shortside on Kolppanen less than two minutes into the final period. They continued to press trying to extend their lead but without luck, and that would come back to haunt them just after the midway point as Tim Daly's powerplay effort went all the way to the back of the net as the two sides were destined for overtime for the second game in a row.

It didn't take long when the game did reach overtime - a turnover in the neutral zone set Klagenfurt through with numbers, and a pass that initially didn't look like reaching its intended target by Clemens Unterweger, did land on the tape of Lukas Haudum who fired a one-timer past Kolppanen to secure a second straight overtime victory for Klagenfurt.
