Marcel Noebels scored twice and Janne Juvonen made 19 saves as Kölner Haie secured a 5-2 win over Frölunda Gothenburg in front of a CHL attendance record-breaking crowd at the LANXESS Arena. 

Both teams had their legs going early when puck dropped in the first with each securing their inital marker within the first five minutes of play.

Cologne's Kevin Niedenz drew first blood for the Germans, redirecting a shot from the point past Tobias Normann to register his first of the season. The 23-year-old positioned himself right at the top of the crease where he was able to follow a shot from Frederik Storm and tip it into the cage at 4:13.

Less than a minute later, the Swedes had the answer. Noah Hasa found the loose puck after Juvonen made the initial pad stop, and whacked it past the netminder to level the scoring at 1-1.

The Germas would take the lead midway through the second when Daniel Fischbuch registered his first of the season. Fischbuch was parked at the top of the crease as Maximilian Kammerer played it out in front where the forward was able to cleanly redirect it into the net. 

In the third, the lead continued to slip away from the Swedes when Cologne manufactured their third and fourth of the night thanks to Noebels who engineered his fifth and sixth of the competition. Some low-to-high play set up Patrick Russell who hammered one from the point as Noebels tipped it past Normann. The Germans then extended their lead again moments later on the powerplay when Noebels slid it past the outstretched pads of the netminder while falling down.

Frölunda found some life at the midpoint of the third when Liam Dower-Nilsson managed to beat Juvonen, but Cologne's defence quickly regrouped, limiting the Swedes' opportunities in the O-zone for the remainder of the period.

Storm capped off the Germans' win on home ice with an empty-netter in the dying seconds of the contest as Cologne secured their third straight victory.
