- Reto Suri was on hand to assist both of Martschini's goals
- Munich logged 26 penalty minutes in total
- EV Zug are the first team to win at the Olympia-Eisstadion in the CHL this season
The Swiss drew the first blood in this game when Dominik Schlumpf put his side ahead via a slapshot that he unleashed while falling with 9.20 on the clock. EV Zug doubled their lead in the second period when Lino Martschini popped up with a powerplay goal, which came courtesy of a cutting pass from Reto Suri.
Red Bull Munich found their way back into the game at 29:35 via the backhand of Justin Shugg, whose side went on to recover from a five on three to level the game only three minutes later; netminder Tobias Stephan wasn’t strong enough on the pads to prevent John Mitchell’s breakaway attempt creeping over his goal-line.
The familiar face of Lino Martschini was on hand once more to score his sixth goal of the tournament after he pounced on a kicked pass by his teammate at 57:58. Frustration grew for the home side in the few remaining minutes of the game after they found themselves on the penalty kill for having too many men on the ice. But there were no more goals, and the Red Bulls will head to Zug for the return game only a goal behind.
