- Leksand wins fourth consecutive game
- Třinec spoil shutout with late powerplay tally
- Leksand become first team to qualify for the CHL Playoffs
Alexander Lundqvist scored the game-winning goal and Kasimir Kaskisuo made 17 saves as Leksands IF defeated Oceláři Třinec for their fourth consecutive Champions Hockey League win.
Play picked up in the first period when a penalty to Třinec pit a confident powerplay against an unconfident penalty kill but the home side managed to fight off the man-advantage to keep the scoresheet blank.
Neither side was able to establish anything through the first 20 minutes despite trading powerplay minutes, and the clubs headed for the locker rooms knotted at 0-0.
The scoreboard would remain the same through most of the second period until the visitors, with a little help from a strong powerplay, broke through at 32:09.
Just as Leksand’s man-advantage expired, Patrik Zackrisson snuck the puck in on the rebound to light the lamp for the first time on the night.
Some insurance came early in the third for Leksand when a long drive from Lundqvist found its way in on the stick side of Třinec's netminder Ondřej Kacetl.
This wouldn't be the only shot from the blueline that had eyes for Leksand. A low wrister from Matt Caito deflected off Max Veronneau who extended the Swedish side's lead on the powerplay to 3-0 with a little over 11 minutes to go in regulation.
Třinec would find some life on the powerplay when a one-timer from Michal Kovařčík cut the deficit to two goals, spoiling Kaskisuo's shutout bid. However, that would be the only bright spot to an otherwise unfortunate affair for the hosts.
From here, time would be the enemy for the home team as a late powerplay for the visitors sealed the Czechs' fate and they would drop their fourth consecutive game by a final of 3-1.
