- Brown & Buck: 2 points each for Nuremberg
- Vincour & Cingel: 2 points each for Mountfield
- Treutle: 39 saves (again) for Nuremberg
A brilliant overtime goal by Christopher Brown on a nice 2-on-1 one feed from Brandon Buck ended a game between the THOMAS SABO Ice Tigers and Mountfield HK that was as entertaining as it was big in the Group F standings.
When these two teams met in Hradec Králové, Mountfield held a wide edge in play but were only able to beat Ice Tigers goalie Niklas Treudle once on 40 shots. The way things started out in Nuremberg, it looked like history might repeat itself. Once again Mountfield carried the early edge but couldn’t beat Treutle, and then at 16:40 Brandon Segal scored on Nuremberg’s third shot, an innocent-looking flip from the right-wing boards that fooled Brandon Maxwell. But instead of getting disheartened, Mountfield quickly responded with two quick goals from Tomáš Vincour and Dominik Graňák to go into the break up 2-1.
Mountfield had chances to widen their lead in the second period, but while on the powerplay in the late going, Maxwell misfired a pass up the ice onto the stick of Buck, who scored to make it 2-2. In the 48th minute, Matěj Chalupa finished off a nice passing play with a tap-in to put Mountfield back in front, but a giveaway by defenceman Tomáš Linhart gave Brown the opportunity for his first goal of the night.
Nuremberg thought they’d taken the lead in the late going but the goal was called back due to a kicking motion from the skate of Patrick Reimer, setting the stage for overtime and Brown’s heroics. The win puts the Ice Tigers one point ahead of Mountfield in the race for advancement.
